Sharjah (5hrs - 8am - 1pm/Monday) We begin our tour with a visit to the iconic Al Noor Mosque (Mosque of Lights), the most magnificent of the nearly 600 mosques currently operating in the Emirate of Sharjah. Located in the heart of the famous Al Buhaira Corniche, this architectural masterpiece is influenced by classical Turkish Ottoman architecture, reminiscent of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. It is currently the only mosque in Sharjah that opens its doors to non-Muslims.
During this fascinating and educational visit, you will learn more about Islam and the culture of the UAE. A session to exchange ideas completes the tour. Explore the heart of Sharjah. Enter the Souq Al Arsah, probably the oldest market in the UAE and begin a journey into the past. Stroll through the air-conditioned alleys of the market, which is home to numerous quaint shops selling local, new and old handicrafts, Arabic bridal chests and pearls, ethnic and handmade jewellery, perfume and incense bottles, palm leaf baskets and shawls. Next, foto stop for Sharjah Fort, also known as Al Hisn Fort. It was built in 1823 and used to be the residence of the ruling Qawasim family as well as the seat of government.
Situated right in the historic heart of Sharjah, the fascinating Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization began life as a traditional Middle Eastern souq or indoor market. Renovated and reopened in 2008, we conclude our visit with a short stop at Souq Al Jubail, a recently opened state-of-the-art market. Inspired by the impressive heritage of Islamic architecture, the souq houses a wide range of shops for visitors to enjoy.
